Try Meditation This Summer
Meditation has repeatedly been shown scientifically to have a number of incredible physical and emotional health benefits. Some of these benefits include lower blood pressure, decreased anxiety, decreased tension-related pain, improved immune system function and increased energy levels, amongst many other things. Meditation has been shown to help with everything from fibromyalgia to psoriasis, and there are even many anecdotal reports of meditation helping sufferers of tinnitus. It’s thought that meditation accomplishes all these amazing health benefits via stress reduction, although the relationship between stress and disease is not always clear-cut. However it works, though, the evidence is clear: it does work.
So why doesn’t everybody already practice meditation? Well, there are a lot of misconceptions about meditation. Some people think of meditation as exclusively belonging to Buddhist monks or New Age hippies. While Buddhist monks and New Age-types do meditate, so do many other people. Meditation is simply the practice of mindfulness – letting go of thoughts and sitting quietly. It does not belong to a specific dogma, religion or belief system.
All of us could probably use a little less stress and a little more clarity in our lives, even the healthiest among us. Meditation classes can therefore be a benefit to everybody. After all, like any other skill, learning to meditate takes practice and it has to be practiced regularly if you want to reap the enormous benefits.
Below, we’ve gathered information on local Miami meditation classes to help you cool out and get mentally refreshed this summer. There’s something for everyone, including classes for children, spa classes, classes in more traditional spaces and classes with a more far-out feel.
