When you fall ill, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics and other medication to help combat the illness. Unfortunately, some medications may have a negative effect on your hearing health; this is called Ototoxicity. As Wikipedia states, “Ototoxicity is damage to the ear (oto-), specifically the cochlea or auditory nerve and sometimes the vestibular system, by a toxin.”

Before beginning any treatment, you should discuss with your doctor how it will affect your hearing. If you have been prescribed Ototoxic drugs, it is important to visit an audiologist who will monitor your hearing health, before, during and after the treatment.
