About 20 Million Americans Suffer From Hearing Loss
The numbers are slowly rising, as more Americans are now diagnosed with some level of hearing loss. Out of all of the loss of hearing sufferers, only one in seven uses some type of hearing aid. This alarms researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
As the researchers state, ”Understanding current rates of hearing loss treatment is important, as evidence is beginning to surface that hearing loss is associated with poorer cognitive functioning and the risk of dementia.”
These researchers believe in the importance of using a hearing aid to treat hearing damage. Study senior investigator Frank Lin explains, ”There’s still a perception among the public and many medical professionals that hearing loss is an inconsequential part of the aging process and you can’t do anything about it,” They are doing everything in their power to try to turn that idea around.
